Rajinikanth (born 12 December 1950 as Shivaji Rao Gaikwad in Bangalore) is an Indian film actor, media personality, and cultural icon. He made his debut as an actor in the National Film Award–winning motion picture Apoorva Raagangal (1975), directed by K. Balachander, whom the actor considers his mentor.

After a brief phase of portraying antagonistic characters in Tamil films, he gradually rose to become an established film actor. Within a few years of his career, he was claimed to be the superstar of Tamil cinema and has since continued to hold a matinee idol status in the popular culture of India. His mannerisms and stylised delivery of dialogue in films contribute to his mass popularity and appeal. While working in other regional film industries of India, he also appeared in the cinemas of other nations, including in that of the United States. After being paid 26 crore (US$5.9 million) for his role in Sivaji (2007), he became the highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan. He is one of the most influential actors in the film industry due to his overwhelming back-driven influence on politics in the state and also many columnist suggest it reportedly.

Baashha (1995)



Manickam (Rajnikanth) is an autorickshaw driver who lives with his step-mother, step sisters and brother. A very helpful and non-violent person by nature, he works hard to educate his younger siblings and to get his step-sister married. Kesavan is a local goon and his daughter Priya (Nagma) falls in love with Manickam. But Manickam refuses her love. Somehow, Manickam's gets entagled with Baashha, a name that has its roots in the underworld. Who is this Baashha and what is his connection with Manickam? Is there a murky past behind Manickan's non-violent and helpful nature. What is it? Who is he really? The truth gradually unfolds as the story progresses.

Muthu (1995)



Muthu - Muthu (Rajnikanth) is Zamindar Raja's (Sarath Babu) loyal servant. At a village drama, Ranganayaki (Meena) catches Raja's eye. He is stunned by her beauty and decides to marry her. However, circumstances force Muthu to take Ranganayaki back to her native home. On the way, they are stuck for a while in Kerala where their romance blossoms. Differences develops between Raja and Muthu due to which Muthu is sent away from the palace. Meanwhile an elderly man who is Muthu's lookalike, mysteriously turns up in the village. Annamalai (1992)



Annamalai, and Ashok, have been best friends since childhood. Annamalai is a milkman while Ashok is the only son of a rich businessman. When Ashok falls in love with Geetha, a poor girl, his father is naturally against the wedding. But Annamalai holds the wedding and earns his ire. Plotting to drive a wedge between his son and Annamalai, the businessman hints that he would like to build a hotel on Annamalais land. Annamalai gives the land to Ashok without even accepting money for it but when Ashoks father later talks about bringing down his house, he slaps Ashoks father in anger. Ashok orders Annamalais house to be bulldozed to the ground which drives Annamalai to challenge that he would become a bigger and more successful hotelier than Ashok. Annamalai, with all his hardwork and honesty becomes the biggest business men in the city. Annamalais daughter and Ashoks son study in the same college and they fall in love which Annamalai is against because of the hatred that he has on Ashok. During an auction, Annamalai tricks Ashok to buy a land for 12 crores which not worth more than...?

Panakkaran (1990)



Great singer Bhuvaneshwari is in love with a wealthy man and gives birth to his child. However, since he refuses to accept her, Bhuvaneswari's brother tells her that the boy was born dead. Meanwhile, he gives the boy to his servant and orders him kill the child. However, the servant raises the boy and uses him to earn money. One day, the boy Muthu learns the truth about his birth. The story takes many a twist and turn and finally, Muthu gets united with his parents.

Vellaikaran(1987)



Young Gajapathy is brought up by his Valayapathy. He decides for him to go to the city in search of a new job and life. While in the city he meets up with Senthil who guides him into an interview in a 5 star hotel owned by Rajkumar. While in the hotel Gajapathy meets Amala and falls in love with her. During this time many attempts are made to kill Rajkumar by his uncle and son Nasser. The blame for this murders goes to Rajkumar mother K.R.Vijaya who is actually Gajapathy mother. Realising all this Gajapathy takes an oath no matter what happens he will let any harm come to Rajkumar. As these attempts are being made, can Gajapathy thwart them all.

Naan Mahaan Alla (1984)



Viswanath a famous lawyer stays with his widowed mother and physically handicapped sister.He sends Jagan and Logu two criminals to jail on the charge of rape and murder of an innocent girl. Jagans father GNK uses his influence and starts creating trouble in Viswanath life. GNK succeeds in getting Viswanath imprisoned on a trumped up charge. His heartbroken mother dies. Once out of jail Viswanath sets out to punish the culprits when he temporarily loses his eyesight.

Moondru Mugam (1982)



Alex Pandiyan (Ranjinikanth) is a very conscientious cop. He arrests the goon Ekambaram and thereby, gets into his bad books. Ekambaram extracts vengeance by killing Alex Pandiyan just when his wife is giving birth to twins. The mother dies in childbirth and Alex's sister is forced to look after the twins. Owing to her poverty, she gives away one child to childless Ramanathan. Ramanthan names the child Arun (Rajinikanth) and brings him up well. On Arun's 25th birthday, he gets a jolt and is able to see all that has happened to his father at the hands of Ekambaram. How Arun finds his twin brother John (Rajinikanth again) and gets justice by bringing the culprits to books forms the remaining part of the story.

The story revolves around Chakravarthy who is a successful textile businessman in Coimbatore. He is a great womaniser and picks up any women he wants. He has wife Meenakshi his son Santosh and his daughter Sangeetha . It doesnt take long for Santosh to find his fathers provocative behavior and tries to mend his fathers ways. Radha gets introduced as a candidate for PRO interview and eventually gets selected and is sent to Hong Kong for training. Chakravarthy unable to tolerate his son growing menace also sets off to Hong Kong for a vacation. Here he meets Radha and at one point ends up raping her. Chakravarthy flies back to India where he is met with a number of changes which all points out to the new General Manager. This person turns out be Radha who has joined with Santosh to teach Chakravarthy a lesson for lifetime. How the duo succeed in changing Chakravarthy behaviour forms the crux of the story. It is one of Rajini's most successful movies.
